Frequently Asked Questions

LumaEcho is a voice-first social platform for language learners. Users post short audio messages and respond with "echoes" — voice replies. Every post is automatically transcribed and translated, so speakers of different languages can understand each other instantly.

You record a voice message of up to 60 seconds directly in your browser — no app download required. The audio is automatically transcribed using AI (OpenAI Whisper) and translated into other languages via DeepL.

LumaEcho supports transcription and translation for dozens of languages including English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Polish, Portuguese, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Arabic, and many more. The interface is available in 8 languages.

Yes, LumaEcho is completely free to use. You can create an account, post voice messages, reply with echoes, and use translation features at no cost.

An echo is a voice reply to a post. Just like sound echoes back, your voice response echoes back to the original poster. Echoes can themselves receive replies, creating threaded voice conversations.

No. LumaEcho runs entirely in your web browser. No app download or installation is required. It works on desktop and mobile browsers that support audio recording.

Your voice recordings are stored securely on servers in Germany. Audio is transmitted to OpenAI Whisper for transcription and to DeepL for translation. We do not use your data for advertising or sell it to third parties. You can delete your recordings or your entire account at any time.

Yes. LumaEcho supports both voice and text posts. You can start with a text post if you are not yet comfortable recording — translation features work for text posts too.

Your feed shows all public posts from all users — you do not need to follow anyone to see content. Following someone also gives you access to any posts they have set to followers-only, which would otherwise be hidden. You can filter the feed by language in Settings → Language.

Yes. You can edit the text of any of your posts or echoes, or delete them at any time. Tap the three-dot menu icon on a post or echo to access these options. Deleted content is removed permanently.

Yes. You are notified when someone replies to your post with an echo, likes your content, or starts following you. Open the notification bell icon in the top navigation bar to see your latest activity.

Yes. You can block users who bother you — blocked users cannot see your posts or interact with you. To block someone, visit their profile and select Block User. You can also report inappropriate posts or echoes using the report option in the three-dot menu.

Yes. LumaEcho is a Progressive Web App (PWA) and can be installed on your phone like a native app — no app store required. On iOS Safari, tap the Share button and select Add to Home Screen. On Android Chrome, tap the menu and choose Add to Home Screen or Install App.

Yes. Go to Settings → Appearance to switch between Light, Dark, and System mode. System mode automatically follows your device's display settings.

Yes. Every post can be set to Public (visible to everyone), Followers only (visible only to your followers), or Private (visible only to you). You can also set a default visibility for all new posts in Settings → Post Visibility so you do not have to choose every time.

Yes. In Settings → Privacy you can make your profile public or private, and choose whether follow requests are automatically accepted or require your manual approval. If auto-accept is off, a follow request appears in your notifications and you decide whether to accept or decline.

Yes. In Settings → Language you can set a preferred translation language. By default, posts are translated into your UI language. You can also turn off automatic translation entirely and translate individual posts manually by tapping the translate button. A separate setting lets you filter the feed to show only posts in a specific language.

You can delete your account at any time in Settings → Account → Danger Zone. All your posts, echoes, and personal data will be permanently deleted immediately.

Every day, LumaEcho publishes a new discussion topic in the feed — the Daily Prompt. You can respond to it with a voice echo, just like any other post. Posts tagged as Daily Prompt show how many community members have already responded. Joining the Daily Prompt is a great way to practice your language and connect with other learners.

Your streak counts how many days in a row you have been active on LumaEcho (by posting or sending echoes). Keeping your streak alive unlocks Power Like multipliers that make your likes count for more: 7 days → ×2, 60 days → ×3, 180 days → ×4, 365 days → ×5. You can track your streak and unlock status in Account → Streak Rewards.

The Learning Engagement Score (LCS) is a weekly score from 0 to 100 that reflects how actively you are learning on LumaEcho. It is calculated from your posts, echoes, streak, and profile completeness. The score unlocks four tiers: Motivated Learner (40+), Active Learner (60+), Engaged Learner (80+), and Language Hero (95+). You can view your current score and what you need for the next tier in your Account settings.

Visit a user's profile and tap the Follow button. Public posts are visible to everyone, but following someone also gives you access to any posts they have set to followers-only. You can unfollow them at any time from their profile. To discover new users, scroll the feed or use the search to find people by name.

The Echo Journal is your personal archive of all the echoes you have ever recorded. You can find it on your profile page. Each entry shows the date, the detected language, the prompt or post you responded to, your audio recording, and its transcription. The journal lets you look back on your language learning journey and listen to your own progress over time.

Classrooms are live group chat rooms where members practice languages together using voice and text in real time. You can join public classrooms or create your own with an invite-only link.

The Time Capsule lets you schedule a post to be published at a future date. When creating a post, tap the hourglass icon and choose a delay: 1 week, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, or 1 year. The post is saved immediately but stays hidden from everyone — including you — until the chosen date arrives, when it is automatically published.
